What to expect from your first visit:

Welcome to City Centre Chiropractic, your first visit is a chance for you to get acquainted with your chiropractor, Dr. Scott Emery and learn more about your condition and how it may be effectively treated with chiropractic care. Your first visit will consist of a thorough history and examination and finish with a mild treatment to see how your body responds to manual therapy. Please come 10-15 mins before your scheduled appointment so that you can fill out the new patient paperwork that is needed to create your record. The new patient examination itself should take approximately 30-45 minutes after Dr. Scott has reviewed the documents you have filled out.
Health History & Consultation

Now that Dr. Scott has an brief understanding of your condition based on your new patient paperwork its time to discuss your problem and determine how your condition may be improved through chiropractic care. A detailed history will be taken of your current and past complaints and how they may be affecting your health and function or even causing your pain.

In order to determine your specific problem, Dr. Scott will ask you various questions related to your condition. A complete postural, range of motion and functional examinations will be used in conjunction with orthopedic and neurological testing to isolate your problematic areas. Dr. Emery will also perform a hands-on evaluation of your spinal and extremity muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and nerves. Dr. Scott may need to assess the length and strength of some of these tissues through stretching and muscle testing procedures. Because these procedures require some mobility Dr. Scott asks that you wear athletic clothing (Athletic shorts or Yoga pants and tank tops) that can be easily stretched and moved to access difficult areas of the body including the spine, shoulders, elbows, knees and hips.

Same Day Treatment

Once finished with the examination and all appropriate studies, patients will generally be provided with their first treatment during this same visit. This may include spinal adjustments, physical therapies, and/or specialized soft-tissue therapies including Active Release Technique or Graston Technique. All procedures will be described in detail and your consent will always be obtained prior to any treatment that we may provide. Remember you are always in control in our treatment rooms, if you have questions or are at all uncomfortable with any procedure we have discussed voice your concerns immediately and Dr. Scott will develop a suitable treatment plan that suits your needs and comfort level.
Home Instructions

Prior to leaving, patients will be given instructions on certain activities or procedures to be conducted at home. This may include ice or heat application, avoidance of certain activities or positions, as well as exercises and/or stretches that can be done at home. Dr. Scott encourages you to take an active role in their health, because the more involved you are in the healing process the quicker and more effective your treatments will be.

Your Next Appointment

Our front desk staff will provide you with a convenient appointment time for your follow-up visit. Generally speaking, patients are seen within 1-2 days of the first treatment. During the second visit you can expect to be provided with a complete review of the doctor’s findings and a custom tailored treatment plan focused on alleviating your areas of complaint and improving your daily function.
